Mechanics, Consistency, Intensity

At York County CrossFit we value success. We want our members to improve their fitness, reach their goals, and then define new ones. Our goal is to see all of our members progress year after year, regardless of fitness level.

So how do we do it?

Mechanics, Consistency and Intensity

Consistency in the mechanics of movement. Consistency in the development of our coaching skills. Consistency in the intensity of movement. Consistency in encouraging class attendance.

Simply put, York County CrossFit consists of people consistently putting an effort towards getting better.

Our gym is not for everyone and we will never try to be for everyone. Putting in consistent effort is hard and we won’t try to sell you quick results. Quick results do not exist. Results come from building habits by being consistent. Consistency means showing up for class when you don’t feel like it. It means checking the ego and scaling when appropriate. Consistency means pushing yourself into that uncomfortable level of intensity.

What does programming have to do with it?

We love our programming, but programming alone doesn’t get you results. In truth, programming doesn’t matter as much as you think it does. Consistently showing up to class and putting forth your best effort is what gets you results.

We program for the best athletes at our gym. Which means the majority of our members will scale most of the time and all of our members will scale some of the time. We want everyone to improve, including our best athletes, which is why we don’t make the Rx easier to make it more attainable. If you Rx most workouts at your gym, but can’t Rx the CrossFit Open workouts, that’s a problem. We don’t want to put limitations on the capabilities of our members. Which is why you will see things like strict ring muscle ups or heavy snatches programmed. You might say, but no one can do those? We say, not yet. Our mission is to challenge and inspire, to help you believe that impossible things are possible. Plus, everyone gets fitter when we practice the progressions for challenging movements such as strict muscle ups. We get it. You hate to lose! We do too. We also understand that true confidence is built when you learn to be okay with failure. Winning all the time at easy things isn’t it. Doing hard things is.

Our best athletes, our coaches, our owners, they are all in class with you doing the exact same programming as you. They do not do any “special programming”. We have all bought into the idea that “the needs of our athletes differ by degree, not by kind”. Which means a quarterfinal athlete and a 61 year old new member can participate in the same 6am class and get exactly what they need out of it. No special programming needed.
