Why should teens be in the gym?

1. Resistance training.
Resistance training improves sports performance, builds lean mass, and provides stability and support to the musculoskeletal system. And while it won’t eliminate the possibility of injury, it can help young bodies become more resilient against injury, lessening the impacts when they do get hurt.

2. Mindset
Weight training can switch someone’s view of their body from what it looks like to what it can do. In today’s world our teens are constantly bombarded with pressure to appear a certain way. Studies looking at youth ages 10–16 years observed a significant association between strength training and high self-esteem, physical strength, and physical self-worth. Weight training increases self-efficacy — the belief that you’re able to succeed at or perform a task — which can greatly improve confidence.

3. Healthy Habits
Teens need to understand that it’s very important to support your body’s development through plenty of good food, rest, and exercise. Encouraging healthy lifestyles in teens is important for when they grow older.

Weight training doesn’t just make us physically stronger,
barbells build confidence and resiliency.
